About The Doula

Micia is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, full Spectrum Certified Doula, a nutritionist, and has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Wayne State University. She recently became an advocate for expectant families and women in labor. Micia has a passion to be innovative in her community and communities like hers to change the mindset about breastfeeding and being treated fairly during labor and birth.  Detroit is very dear to her heart and, being that she is a native Detroiter, she has chosen to commit herself in a profound way that will allow her to support expectant and breastfeeding families. However, she can provide services anywhere in the United States. Micia is a huge advocate for health equity, and every aspect of health, and she hopes to witness the decrease in health disparities for our Detroit community.    As an IBCLC and Doula, Micia loves that she is able to currently relate to other breastfeeding mothers.  She recently breastfed 4 children her 7 yo until she was 15 mos., and her 5 yo for 18 months, her 3 year old until 15 mos and currently breastfeeds her 1 year old baby girl.  Micia takes pride in providing breastfeeding education and is proud that she is actually breastfeeding while being an IBCLC so that her clients know that she truly understands the barriers and challenges of breastfeeding.  She is confident knowing that being united with her fellow IBCLCs and Doulas in Michigan will make a significant change.
